
We aim, through education,
information, support and advocacy to reduce the incidence of Stroke and
minimise the physical, social and emotional impact Stroke and other
disabilities have on clients, their carers and the wider community.
We
- Provide a direct service to
people in Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and the Coalfields and a telephone/
mail and email service to people in other areas.
- Hold free seminars and
workshops on stroke, disabilities and health related issues for the
community and health professionals.
- Hold annual Disability and
Seniors Expo.
- Link people with community
support.
- Provide information on stroke
and other disabilities through:
Brochures
Books
Videos
DVD’s
Information packages
- Support existing Stroke
Recovery Groups and help start new ones.
- Support self help groups.
- Advocate on behalf of people
with a disability and their carers to Centrelink, Department of Housing,
Doctors etc.
- Provide a bi-monthly newsletter
with related updates and items of interest to disabled people and their
carers.
- Link people with others who
have a similar disability.
- Link carers with other carers
for mutual support.
- Facilitate education of health
professionals by people with a disability.
