1. January 23: Rapid Play Tournament at 10 minutes per player. Depending on the number of entries this will be either a Round Robin or a Swiss. Registration at 6.30 pm. Play to start at 7.00 pm. Entry fee is $5. For those players who are NOT members of the Newcastle District Chess Association an entry fee of $9 will be charged ($5 entry + $4 casual player fee).

2. February 11 & 12: Newcastle Open. See the NDCA Website.

3. March 19: Lightning Tournament at 5 minutes per player. Registration at 6.30 pm. Play to start at 7.00 pm. Entry fee is $5. For those players who are NOT members of the Newcastle District Chess Association an entry fee of $9 will be charged ($5 entry + $4 casual player fee).

4. May 14: City of Newcastle Lightning Tournament at 5 minutes per player. Depending on the number of entries this will either be a Round Robin or a Swiss. Registration at 6.30 pm. Play to start at 7.00 pm. Entry fee is $10. For those players who are NOT members of the Newcastle District Chess Association an entry fee of $14 will be charged ($10 entry + $4 casual player fee).

5. May 20:One Day Rapid Tournament (15 mins per player) at Gallipoli Legion Club Hamilton. Entry fee $15. Registration from 9.30 to 10.15 am. Play to start at 10.30 am. See NDCA Website for details as this tournament nears.

6. May 21: City of Newcastle Championship. To be played over consecutive Thursday evenings for 6 to 7 weeks. Time Control is 1 hour + 10 secs Fischer. Entry fee is $20. Depending on the number of entries, The City of Newcastle Championship will take one the following formats.
   1. A round-robin for 8 players or less.
   2. A 6 round Swiss for 9 to 10 players.
   3. A 7 round Swiss for more than 11 players.
   4. In the unlikely event of 16 players or more, a two division tournament (8 or more players in each division).

   Whatever the format, the City of Newcastle Championship will be a RATED tournament, and to be eligible to play you MUST be a member of the Newcastle District Chess Association & the New South Wales Chess Association. Entry will be refused to those who do not comply with these two guidlines. Players wishing to compete who not members of these two respective Associations can join on the evening if they wish and be eligible to compete.

7. August 6: Newcastle District Rapid Play at 10 minutes per player. Depending on the number of entries this will either be a Round Robin or a Swiss. Registration at 6.30 pm. Play to start at 7.00 pm. Entry fee is $10 For those players who are NOT members of the Newcastle District Chess Association an entry fee of $14 will be charged ($10 entry + $4 casual player fee).

8. August 13: Newcastle District Championship commences ...... Newcastle's toughest tournament and not for the fainthearted ...... prepare yourself for the bloodletting! To be played over consecutive Monday evenings for 6 to 7 weeks. Time Control is 2 hours guillotine. Entry fee is $25. Depending on the number of entries, Newcastle District Championship will take one the following formats.
   1. A round-robin for 8 players or less.
   2. A 6 round Swiss for 9 to 10 players.
   3. A 7 round Swiss for more than 11 players.
   4. In the unlikely event of 16 players or more, a two division tournament (8 or more players in each division).

11. November ?: Annual NDCA Chess Dinner & Prize Giving starting at 6 pm at Panthers Newcastle. Date to be advised.

12. December 1 & 2: NSW Country Teams Championship to be held at Gallipoli Legion Club Hamilton. More details provided as this event nears on NDCA Website.

13. December 3 Annual General Meeting starting at 7 pm at Panthers Newcastle.

14. December 17: Christmas Lightning at 5 minutes per player. Registration at 6.30 pm. play to start at 7pm. Entry fee is $5. For those players who are NOT members of the District Chess Association an entry fee of $9 will be charged ($5 entry + $4 casual player fee).
