Becoming A Member of The Newcastle District Chess Association

The question is often asked "Why should I become a member of the Newcastle District Chess Association?" That question is easy to answer! You become a member of the local chess organisation that has served Novocastrian Chess for 50 years. You directly support chess at the local level and get to join the New South Wales Chess Association as a Country Member that entitles you to NSWCA Chess Bulletins. You get to play social chess free of charge on club evenings in a friendly relaxed atmosphere, and if so inclined, take your chess to the next level by competing in officially rated tournaments such as the City of Newcastle Championship, Newcastle District Championship and the Newcastle Open. One gets to play Kriegspiel and other chess variants at The Club, whilst special thematic openings such as the King's Gambit can be organised on request. Becoming a member of The Association also immediately qualifies you to borrow books from the NDCA Chess Library and allows you and your spouse to be cordially invited to the NDCA Annual Chess Dinner.

There are two levels of membership and a Casual Player Fee that applies to non members.

  1. $50 Full Adult Membership: This fee is for adults in full time employment. $40 of your fee goes to support local chess by helping to provide money to purchase chess sets, chessboards, digital clocks and scoresheets etc. $10 of your fee goes towards joining the New South Wales Chess Association.
  2. $40 University & TAFE Student / Pensioner Membership: This fee is for university students and other limited income players. $30 of your fee goes to support local chess by helping to provide money to purchase chess sets, chessboards, digital clocks and scoresheets etc. $10 of your fee goes towards joining the New South Wales Chess Association.

A $4 Casual Player Fee is charged for players that elect not to join the Newcastle District Chess Association, but just wish to come along to The Club to play social chess occasionally.

To join, simply come along to Panthers Newcastle, and ask an NDCA Officer for a New South Wales Chess Association Membership Form, fill out same and pay your appropriate fee. It's that easy!
