I completed a 3 year Bachelor of Arts~

Visual Arts Degree in 1988 and 

a 2 year Fine Arts Certificate in 

1985.  Both were through Newcastle, 

University { Degree } and Newcastle College 

of Fine Arts { Arts Certificate } part of T.A.F.E. 

 in NSW, Australia..

 Artistic ~ Literary ~ Other 

 Influences During Tertiary Studies 

 During  tertiary studies, I became mainly 

interested in the aesthetic effects, 

styles and ideas of: Eugene 

Delacroix 1798.....1863,  The 

Impressionists of the  19th Century 

and  Australian Artists Sydney Nolan

&  Leonard  French  of the  20th Century.

During studies and up to present day,

I have found art history books focusing 

on specific artists of various centuries 

influential with ideas.  Technical knowledge 

with drawing and painting mediums was 

valuable information as well.  As was  

learning of each artists ways of 

communicating in their works; which helps 

with themes and concepts in my works 

of art.  A deeper appreciation for what 

artists were expressing behind the 

aesthetics was gained as well.

Other influences have been my love for 

and being drawn to the natural world.

Not only for being visually inspired, but 

to also gather my thoughts and allow the 

 inner and outer beauty and wonder of 

natures tranquil atmospheres to stimulate 

my visual concepts and messages.

Some other influences come from a 

mix of Impressionist and Surrealist Art. 

As well as unusual artistic mediums, styles 

and textures. One of the artist's styles 

I presented a seminar on was Australian 

Artist Leonard French of the 20th Century.

 French's work with his unusual use of

aesthetics, artistic styles & mediums; 

I found appealing & inspiring at the time.

 Artistic ~ Literary ~ Other 

 Influences During Recent Years 

During recent years artistic influences 

have been linked with fantasy/

mythical  stories, symbolism and 

documentaries on ancient.....medieval 

periods of time in history. Which are 

also a source of inspiration. 

Philosophical writings and poetry have 

a positive influence and help with envisions.

Ancient manuscripts; aesthetically and 

regards to the stories depicting ancient 

events and lives: are useful and appealing 

as concepts to refer to with my directions 

and works.

Documentaries exploring our universe; 

which sometimes are integrated with ancient 

times; for example the early Egyptian 

Dynasties and Incas Civilisations bring 

together fascinating cultures, wealth of 

knowledge and insight into metaphysical, 

spiritual and esoterical  elements.

Mystic and Symbolistic imagery are 

another source of inspiration for me. I aim 

to blend knowledge/inspiration/ideas to 

enhance my artistic expression.

These are newer artistic directions;

which I am only at the beginning of.

As an individual lives, loves and learns; 

the human spirit is consciously and 

subconsciously focused upon. Thus the 

spirit for me anyhow has a wonderful, 

uplifting influential presence in an 

individuals life and work.
