 This work is a mix of imaginary and 

 historical scenery enhanced by soft morning 

 mist. I have tried to capture the feeling of 

 viewing the outskirts of an open forest, 

  from an era long ago. 

 Hints of cool shadow hues exaggerated, 

 give the painting a haunting quality  similar 

 to a mythical or storybook effect. Although 

 I do not wish to imitate storybook images. 

 I hope my works will always have 

 unique  qualities about them. 

 Layers of transparent paint brushwork 

 have helped to highlight the mist. This is 

 the first in the series 'Mythical Enchantment'

 With this painting I have attempted 

 to capture  subtle filtered light seeping through the 

 clouds. Trying to enliven the feeling of glowing 

 light radiating across the landscape. 

 Wanting to inspire the moods 

 & play of light from our ever changing sun~ 

 with its vigorous energy & essence. 

 Also occurring are effects of cool hues 

 & shadows scattered amongst mountain & hills. 

 I try to encourage ideas of the forever changeable, 

 sometimes overwhelming & mysterious 

 atmosphere & ambience created in 

 the natural world. 

 When at times one contemplates the natural  

 environment, the elements of our earth, space or  

 universe. One may sense or feel a connection to 

 a higher presence, or maybe the workings of 

 something higher; 

 possibly way beyond the skies above.

 Cool moods, cool light with shadows 

 are attempted expression in this work. Subtleties 

 in the presence of wind through the trees, sweeping 

 sky  & water. At the same time there is repose 

 about this scene.

 While observing & painting this scene, I was 

 encountering the atmosphere & the way this 

 effects the landscape. 

 Trying to enhance the late winter afternoon 

 light low in the horizon, not far from sunset. 

 Unanticipated shades & reflections in the ocean 

 are created with the subtle impression & glow of light; 

 just reaching the edges of the shrubs.

 'A Secluded Afternoon'

 This work attempts to capture 

 the similar feelings of 'Tranquility'. 

 Capturing a moment in time with serenity. 

 Although this is a mixed medium: water soluble 

 pencil, pastel, crayon and gouache paints. 

 Using a style I call 'linear  wash 

 techniques'.   Sweeping skies and 

 illustrative effects are what I tried 

 to create in this work of art.  This scene

 caused by the changing light & shadow of this 

 astonishing terrain. 

 I see the land, plains, waters, forests & the 

 creatures that dwell in them; as having a 

 connection to ourselves. Alongside this is a sense of 

 unity with all life ~ creation ~ creator.
